BREEAM In-Use (BIU) is designed to help building managers and owners reduce the running costs and improve the environmental performance of existing buildings. The scheme uses an assessment tool that can be completed by building managers and owners to self-assess their buildings.
Want to know more about the BREEAM In-Use scheme? The 5 points below will help you do just that…
1. New BIU International scheme for 2015:
The BREEAM In-Use scheme has recently been updated following feedback from our assessors, clients and National Scheme Operators. Some of the changes include:
– The launch of an online platform to manage your assessment portfolio;
– Refining of the question set;
– The release of a technical manual that will support clients and assessors.
The intention was to make the current question set more applicable to all building types whilst not significantly changing the questionnaire. This ensures comparability between assets across all countries.
2. New online system:
Our BREEAM online tool provides an easy-to-use, cost-effective way of managing your BREEAM In-Use assessment portfolio.
Using an online questionnaire and dynamic scoring outputs, you’ll be able to view unverified scores instantly; saving time and increasing efficiency of the assessment process. To access the online system, visit: www.breeam.com/breeaminuse
3. Part 3 Pilots for Health, Retail & Hospitality Sectors:
We are currently developing Part 3 content – specific for health, retail and hospitality buildings. The tailored criteria will consider differences in occupiers of a range of building types, ensuring the BREEAM In-Use score is a fair reflection of that building.
If you are interested in becoming a pilot partner, or would like more information, please contact [email protected]
4. Volume Sampling:
Do you have a large portfolio of buildings to assess? Do you want to reduce time and cost involved in evaluating the whole portfolio without losing the integrity of the assessment?
We are currently seeking partners to pilot our new approach that will allow you to do just that. If you are interested in becoming a partner, contact: [email protected]
5. International appetite for the scheme:
BREEAM In-Use is rapidly growing, particularly due to the increasing needs of the international market. The scheme is currently represented in over 10 countries worldwide.
