After delivering our BIM International course in Dubai recently, we thought we’d share our top tips for using BIM across different countries.
1. The Devil is in the detail
Level 2 in one country is not always the same as Level 2 in another – so do your homework first and understand the detail involved.
2. A rose by any other name…
Different countries use different names for the key BIM roles, so remember that the roles and responsibilities are more important than the titles
3. You say potato…
Terminology gets more complex when dealing with different languages, and even when they’re both English. Clear communication and common understanding will help here.
4 Common Process…
Regardless of where you are internationally there are still common standardised process on a project that needs documentation. This highlights the need for a BIM Execution Plan, stating the Standards, Methods and Processes that should be observed.
5. We’re all in it together…
Each country is at a different stage of development, and will have approached BIM from many different angles. We are all learning and need to share good practice with each other in order to grow our industry further and develop opportunities.
We hope that these tips will help you to understand some of the issues and considerations to look at when dealing with BIM on an international scale.
