Inspiring places: The Sky Garden

sky gardenThis week the ‘Sky Garden’ on 20 Fenchurch Street was opened to the public. Billed as the “UK’s tallest public park” the garden offers uninterrupted views across London, from the 35th floor of London’s newest iconic skyscrapper.

Designed by renowned Uruguayan architect Rafael Viñoly and owned and operated by Land Securities and the Canary Wharf Group, 20 Fenchurch Street is the fifth-tallest building in London. Nicknamed the ‘Walkie-Talkie’due to its distinctive curved shape, the building offers 680,000 sq.ft of prime office space, in the heart of London.

Due to its top heavy design, the top three floors of the building create 9,000 sq.ft of landscaped garden, filled with tropical flora. Owing to its central location the gardens offer visitors a unique panorama across London, taking in sites such as; The Shard and London Bridge in the South; the Tower of London, Tower Bridge and Canary Wharf in the East; the Gherkin and Cheesegrater in the North; and the London Eye and Westminster Palace in the West.

In addition to the viewing platform and garden on level 35, there is a bar and viewing area on level 36, and a public terrace, restaurant and cafe on level 37.
