The Inspiring ‘BEGlobal: Insights from our world leading women’!

This week, the BEGlobal: Insights from our world leading women evening reception took place at The IET, Savoy Place in London, where we heard inspiring stories and insights from a diverse range of speakers:

Amanda Clack, past president of the RICS, post-Grenfell expert advisory committee member and CBRE’s head of strategic consulting and UK board member, kicked off the show with a telling of her own personal journey to International success.

“If one small girl can, you can too”.

Melanie De Wet, Associate Director at WSP and Development and Member of the Chartered Institution of Highways & Transportation, then followed with an energetic account of her travels and how she brings her personal experiences into her work life (and vice versa).

“Connect your work and your life pursuits”.

Maya Naasani, an award-winning Commercial Consultant and Economist, then told a moving story of her experiences in the Middle East.

UK and Middle Eastern cultures are similar. More women are needed in leadership roles.

Naomi Climer, Past President of The IET and Broadcasting and Communications Engineer, then gave guests a glimpse into the future of global technology.

Automation, data, artificial intelligence and virtual reality; we, and everything else, will be connected.

The audience then enthusiastically engaged in a thought-provoking discussion panel, chaired by BRE’s CEO Dr Peter Bonfield OBE FREng, providing the opportunity to have some of the burning issues around this topic answered. We had a packed house for the event, organised by BRE’s Women’s Network, meeting our aim of supporting and inspiring others, both women and men, to pursue their career and life aspirations, whether that be in a global or local context.

Some great feedback from the night includes…..”Unbelievably, the speakers were truly inspiring and I wasn’t even a woman”, “great venue and initiative – need more events like this – more positive less issue based”, “questions we all think about, answers we all want and should be sharing or further be examining”.

Each of our speakers gave such interestingly varied personal accounts, demonstrating that the possibilities truly are endless, and that we as individuals are the masters of the aspirations and paths that we follow.
