APRES – a network of industry and academic partners committed to embedding the responsible and ethical sourcing of materials, products and services into the construction industry has published a best practice white paper.
Aimed at construction clients, contractors, manufactures and professional bodies, the paper includes an Eight Pathways to Best Practice model which is designed to take an organisation through from baseline levels of performance on responsible and ethical sourcing, towards best in class.
It looks at the critical areas of operation in a business: from initial policy-making, via compliance, right through to PR.
‘The Apres Eight Pathways Model is about giving organisations the framework for turning good intentions into positive actions.’ says Shamir Ghumra, Director Sustainable Products at BRE. ‘Modern-day businesses operating in the construction sector are dealing with supply chains that are not only long and global, but also complex in nature. This can expose them to reputational risk and commercial threat. While progress has been made by the industry in tackling sourcing issues associated with the environment it is the ethical dimension – particularly modern slavery and enforced labour issues -which are presenting fresh challenges. APRES’s mission is to help the industry address this’
