The Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) was a sponsor of our collaborative #BEinspired event in September 2016. They have been in touch to invite people from across our sector to their Diversity drinks reception on 31st January 2017. This is an excellent way to give feedback to CIOB about how greater diversity can be highlighted in the Construction Manager of the Year Awards. Not a single entry was received from a woman for last year’s awards. After the awards, an article in Construction Manager magazine considered why gender diversity is a problem in the construction sector. CIOB want to increase all aspects of diversity in the awards, not just gender diversity.
The following invitation text was provided by CIOB – hope you can make it.
The CIOB are looking to engage with members of under-represented groups to help us lead the way in showcasing the very best managers working in the construction industry.
Please join us for networking drinks on 31st January, to see if you could be one of the next stars of construction. CMYA is one of the highest profile events celebrating leadership and management in the UK construction industry and reached over five million people on twitter alone this year. CMYA highlights individual excellence and it is rigorously judged and completely independent. Whether you are from a large company or a small, working on major projects or small refurbishments, on site or in the office, you have an equal chance of winning; only excellence counts.
Although the 2016 Awards were a great success with many really exceptional entries, we were disappointed that we did not receive entries from a representative cross section of the industry, for example, we did not have any entries from women this year. The CIOB is keen to encourage more entries from members of groups who are under-represented in construction including women, people from minority ethnic backgrounds, people with disabilities and lesbian, gay, bi-sexual and transgender individuals.
Please join us for drinks and canapes to give us your ideas on how you could help CIOB increase the diverse representation in our initiatives, including these awards.
