BRE Products
BREEAM
Perhaps the best known of our brands, BREEAM is the trusted mark of sustainability for buildings and communities in 77 countries around the world. BREEAM empowers those who commission, design, construct and manage buildings, infrastructure and communities to achieve their sustainability goals.
BREEAM Infrastructure
BREEAM Infrastructure (formerly CEEQUAL) is the sustainability assessment, rating and awards scheme for civil engineering projects. Part of BRE since 2015, BREEAM Infrastructure operates alongside BREEAM, bringing together the world’s leading sustainability assessment methods for buildings, masterplanning and infrastructure.
BREEAM Infrastructure promotes and celebrates the achievement of high environmental and social performance in civil engineering, infrastructure, landscaping and public realm projects.
LPCB
The Loss Prevention Certification Board (LPCB) works with industry and government to set the standards needed to ensure that fire and security products and services perform effectively.
LPCB’s Loss Prevention Standards (LPS) are widely recognised and applied in fire and security sectors around the world. LPCB offers third-party certification confirming that products and services have met and will continue to meet these standards.
SmartSite
SmartSite is the data and information platform for the construction industry. SmartSite brings a range of digital products and resources that will help improve safety, efficiency and sustainability.
The platform includes:
YellowJacket to help you increase health and safety on construction projects
SmartWaste to help you cut development costs and environmental impacts
NABERS UK
NABERS UK is a simple, reliable system for rating the energy efficiency of office buildings across England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland.
NABERS UK offers two products:
Energy for Offices NABERS Energy measures the efficiency of an office building and rates its performance.
Design for Performance is the process whereby a developer or owner commits to design, build and commission a new office development or major refurbishment to achieve a specific NABERS Energy rating.
Home Quality Mark
The Home Quality Mark (HQM) is the badge of a better home. It enables house builders to showcase the quality of their homes, and to distinguish them from other houses on the market.
SABRE
SABRE will help you improve the security of your buildings and infrastructure. It impartially measures and evaluates security against a range of potential threats, and awards an independent, security risk management rating – the SABRE Assurance Rating.
BRE Bookshop
The BRE Bookshop is the leading online bookstore for the construction, built environment and related sectors with over 40,000 publications across more than 60 of the industry’s major publishers.
Online and digital tools
We have a growing suite of online and digital tools aimed at improving environmental health, sustainability, and reducing environmental impact
Housing Health Cost Calculator (HHCC)
Quantifying and demonstrating the health-cost benefits of housing improvements.
HHCC calculates the health costs of hazards in homes, and the savings made where these have been addressed. It details the cost savings to the NHS and wider society gained by both enforcement and improvement strategies – and allows these to be authoritatively demonstrated.
HHCC requests information from you to produce a health and safety rating score which is used to enforce minimum housing standards under Housing Act 2004. Your data is stored and can be retrieved at any time free of charge. For subscribers, health cost data is provided for any or all hazards mitigated for a 12 month period.
A number of authorities have used this methodology to carry out retrospective health-cost benefit analyses of hazards mitigated by their intervention, including Bristol, Plymouth, Great Yarmouth, Liverpool and Derby (see case study here).

IMPACT® Methodology and Database
Integrating Life Cycle Assessment, Life Cycle Costing and Building Information Modelling.
IMPACT® allows construction professionals to measure the embodied environmental impact and life cycle cost performance of buildings. IMPACT is integrated into 3D CAD/BIM (Building Information Mamagement) software tools. The results generated by IMPACT can be used in whole building assessment schemes like BREEAM.
LINA
Your route to Environmental Product Declaration (EPD).
BRE LINA is an online life cycle assessment (LCA) tool that gives product manufacturers access to LCA data and a route to EPD. Manufacturers must be increasingly transparent about the environmental impacts of their products. EPDs based on data from LCAs provide a way of doing this, but obtaining LCA data can be difficult and costly.
BRE LINA enables companies or trade associations to produce LCA results which can then be uploaded into a BRE Hub where third-party verified EPDs can be produced. (See Maxwood Washrooms case study here).
The benefits are not limited to EPD – for example the outputs of LINA can complement an existing Environmental Management System. And in future, environmental impact data will have greater importance in sustainability rating systems such as BREEAM and CEEQUAL, and there will be further opportunities to feed EPD data into Building Information Modelling.

Excess Cold Calculator (XCC)
Helping environmental health practitioners and technical officers to assess excess cold in homes.
Information about a home and its occupants is entered into the XCC to provide estimated running costs and information on the adequacy of the heating system.
This informs local authority decisions on remedial actions in enforcement cases, provides BRE endorsed evidence in RPT hearings, and aids discussions with landlords about works required. It also helps with specifying radiator/storage heater sizes, calculating the cost effectiveness of remedial actions and testing improvement plans.
The benefits of XCC are illustrated in these case studies by Bristol City Council:
XCC is available online on a subscription basis.
For more information contact us or visit the Excess Cold Calculator Website.
Low Impact Sustainability Tool (LIST)
LIST focuses on reducing the environmental impacts of shopfittings – display and shelving equipment in shops.
Shopfittings have important environmental and cost implications, as they are regularly replaced and discarded – usually to landfill. LIST helps shopfitting designers and manufacturers to use more sustainable materials and designs, and retailers to select equipment that will support their sustainability goals.
LIST was developed in partnership with Marks & Spencer, design consultancy Fitch and point of purchase company DisplayPlan. It is based on BRE’s cradle-to-grave environmental profiles methodology, which provides a scientifically-based assessment of all aspects of environmental impact. It is easy to use (with no technical knowledge needed) and can be applied to every form of shopfitting equipment.

Domestic Annual Heat Pump System Efficiency (DAHPSE) Estimator
Select and compare real makes and models of heat pumps to aid in design choices.
A heat pump can be used in dwellings for space and/or hot water heating. Heat pumps may cause fewer CO2 emissions than other types of domestic space and hot water heating systems when appropriately designed and installed.
The purpose of this website is to provide annual performance estimates for electrically-driven heat pumps installed in UK homes and enable comparison of products and installation scenarios.
For more information visit www.bregroup.com/heatpumpefficiency.
Housing Stock Condition Database (HSCD)
Supporting local authorities in understanding and monitoring their housing stock
HSCD complements BRE’s Excess Cold Calculator (XCC) and Housing Health Cost Calculator (HHCC) tools to allow local authorities to target improvements in housing conditions, energy efficiency and public health standards, as well as query and update their housing data.
For more information, please visit the Housing Stock Condition Database.
CaliBRE
CaliBRE is a site efficiency and productivity measurement tool that will help pinpoint lost time and inefficient construction process, that when remedied result in reduced delivery times, lower construction costs and reduced environmental impacts
CaliBRE
Quantify the productivity and effectiveness of new and innovative processes
Measuring the impact of innovation and new thinking are essential to achieve net zero carbon whilst continuing to put pressure on lowering costs and reducing delivery times. Determining which possible alternative will deliver the greatest cost-effective benefit is a challenge. CaliBRE can help uncover which approach offers the greatest environmental, sustainable and commercial opportunity.
CaliBRE is a site efficiency and productivity measurement tool that diagnoses and quantifies ‘waste time’, non-added-value time and value-added time in working hours. Evidenced by hard data CaliBRE can help determine process efficiency and identify delays and other non-added value activities.
