Did you know that just 14% of the construction workforce is female according to the CIC diversity report, ‘A Blueprint for Change’? These findings are also supported by the recent BRE Academy Skills Gap survey, which reported a lack of gender diversity at all levels across the construction industry with 62% saying we need to boost positive culture around women in the industry.
The BRE Women’s Network is committed to addressing these issues and driving positive change. The Network was set up in 2013 to act as a coordinating group to inspire and support women working in the built environment, with the aim of promoting strength in diversity throughout the built environment by showcasing the achievements and opportunities available to women in our sector.
Since its inception the group has hosted events for BRE staff and the wider sector and facilitated networking with a diverse range of professionals from the built environment. In our first year we developed and delivered a fully subscribed event series following the themes of: Inspire, Involve, Learn and Lead.
Our next event will build on this success. ‘Stories that push boundaries’ will be held on 20th September 2016 at the IET (Savoy Place) in London. Participants will hear speakers’ stories about their own experiences of pushing boundaries in their career. These are not just stories about diversity, but also stories of pushing industry limits and achieving higher quality more sustainable places for people. The event will showcase other industry women’s networks with pecha kucha presentations and ample opportunity for networking. The event is CPD certified by the BRE Academy and will be a great opportunity for attendees to earn CPD hours.
