BRE Academy’s BREEAM Associate course has won a prestigious CIBSE Building Performance Training Programme Award. It is awarded to a programme that demonstrates how a training innovation, initiative, or programme has had a significant effect upon staff skills and development, resulting in a positive impact on the performance of buildings through design, construction, commissioning or operation.
The award was given a glittering ceremony in London, England, and was judged by an impressive panel of judges.
The BREEAM Associate training – with no less than TEN partner organisations collaborating on its creation – offers a pathway to new BREEAM skills, practises and knowledge. It’s an entry level course (and comes with a certificate for 30 hours CPD learning, and a badge of certification). It was piloted by 10 organisations – Arcadis, ASSA ABLOY, BAM, BT, Ferrovial, Grontmij, HOK, ISG, Segro and WSP | Parsons Brinckerhoff – who put almost 400 individuals through the successful pilot.
BREEAM is the world’s leading sustainability assessment method for master planning projects, infrastructure and buildings, and addresses construction at all stages. It is the world’s longest established method of assessing, rating, and certifying the sustainability of buildings.
The BREEAM Associate course was developed following feedback from BREEAM users, and ranges from offering an understanding of BREEAM principles, the process of applying it, and managing risk from pre-tender to completion. Its appeal is broad: design teams, construction teams, architects, engineers, project managers, value engineers and procurements teams, amongst others.
Judges commented: “BRE had the advantage here: they have a wider spectrum of activity and addressed the important issue of embedding training within projects.”
The programme is a clear demonstration of how BRE Academy helps transfer the knowledge from inside BRE and other specialist built environment organisations to help the industry innovate and implement change faster and more cost effectively at all levels.
The Award shows our continued commitment. In 2014 the CIBSE Training for Building Performance Award went to the BREEAM Accredited Professional ‘classroom’ course, awarded to BRE Group Training – BRE Academy’s forerunner.
BRE Academy would like to congratulate our category runners up, Building and Engineering consultancy, Hurley Palmer Flatt, whose GATES Training and Development Programme is clearly dedicated to raising standards, and the other winners.
