Summary of my six-month internship at BRE

Hello all,

I’m Elodie, a student of the Engineering School ‘Ecole Centrale de Nantes’ in France. I studied general engineering before a year of specialisation in Sustainable Construction where I took part in the international competition of sustainable housing Solar Decathlon. As part of my degree, I had the opportunity to undertake a six-month internship at BRE within the Centre for Sustainable Products.

My main tasks so far have been split into three parts: writing of papers, contributing to certification work and consultancy projects. I had the chance to work on various and interesting projects such as PISAC, the project of Innovation Park in Brazil or the development of sustainability schemes in Qatar. I did benefit of the knowledge of the members of my team who shared their experience and expertise with me. Moreover, I was able to work with other parts of BRE such as Building Technology Group or the International Market Development.

Furthermore, soon after the beginning of my placement, I attended a three-day training course for BREEAM International New Construction. This was a great opportunity to learn about the scheme and to meet people around the world assessing buildings against this BRE standard.

My placement at BRE is not finished yet and I’m really enthusiastic about the continuation of my experience here!
