We want to get your feedback on the development of the Built Environment Carbon Database to help the UK construction industry to measure and reduce carbon emissions in the built environment.
BRE is collaborating with other industry leaders to develop a new Built Environment Carbon Database working with RICS, the UK Green Building Council, the Carbon Trust, RIBA, the Institution of Structural Engineers, and the Institution of Civil Engineers.
The Built Environment Carbon Database (BECD) will become the main source of carbon estimating and benchmarking for the UK construction sector. It will also serve as a practical tool to support the decarbonisation of the built environment.
Populated by industry professionals, the database will collect and supply product data and entity level data to the industry through its own portal and by interacting with existing databases and software solutions.
We really want to get involvement from the industry now. We’re looking forward to that feedback to help us build the BECD and enable the reduction of carbon emissions in the built environment – Alejandro Romero, Principal Consultant in Resources and Embodied Carbon at BRE.”
The BECD is now entering the consultation phase of the project. This will be key to establishing a database that collaboratively delivers the needs of the UK industry.
The first part of this collaboration is to gather industry feedback on the data structure of the entity-level database, for example, the type of data that the database will collect for buildings and infrastructure.
How to get involved
We need your support and feedback to make the BECD the industry standard carbon estimating and benchmarking database in the UK.
Go to www.BECD.co.uk/documents to give us your feedback and view:
- An overview of the entity-level database, its planned functionalities, and how the consultation will proceed
- An illustration of the data structure, with explanatory notes
- A link to the online questionnaire to give your feedback
The BECD consultation on the data structure is open until Friday 24th July.
Alejandro Romero, Principal Consultant in Resources and Embodied Carbon at BRE said, “I have been involved in the BECD over the last 9 months, namely as part of Working Group 1, which is responsible for the technical development of the BECD at Entity Level.
“It is very exciting to see the project unfold into this initial Consultation Phase and look forward to continuing working in this project.
