BRE is collaborating with other industry leaders to develop a new Built Environment Carbon Database working with RICS, the UK Green Building Council, the Carbon Trust, RIBA, the Institution of Structural Engineers, and the Institution of Civil Engineers.
The Built Environment Carbon Database (BECD) will become the main source of carbon estimating and benchmarking for the UK construction sector. It will also serve as a practical tool to support the decarbonisation of the built environment.
Populated by industry professionals, the database will collect and supply product data and entity level data to the industry through its own portal and by interacting with existing databases and software solutions.
The entity section of BECD is now entering the testing phase of the project. This stage will be key to make sure that the service is fit for purpose and is aligned with industry practice. During this phase industry professionals have access to a beta version of the service where the interface can be tested.
The beta version will be empty and limited to the “data input” functionality. By entering test data, users will be able to explore the database interface and the improved data structure but will not be able to perform data analysis and benchmarking, as these functionalities are still in development.
How to get involved
The BECD needs your support and feedback to make this the industry standard carbon estimating and benchmarking database in the UK.
• Visit the testing site for the service
• Download a brief describing the purpose of this consultation
• Download the user guide providing instruction on the database use
• Access the feedback survey to give your feedback.
The BECD testing phase will be open until Friday 16th December.
Keep up to date with the BECD by signing up to the newsletter.
This consultation stage on the entity section of BECD is running in conjunction with the call for evidence of the Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard.
