Addressing the National Housing Federation’s Annual Summit today, the Prime Minster Theresa May was keen to stress the importance of quality in housing, and in particular quality in the social housing sector.
“Data from the English Housing Survey, carried out by BRE on behalf of Government for the past fifty years, shows that around nine million people – 17% of households in England – live in social housing. Announcing new funding to get Britain building more homes, we at BRE are reassured to hear that the quality of those homes for the future is a key objective.”
In an effort to overturn the ‘stigma’ of social housing, Mrs May told the audience that housing associations have a huge role to play in delivering quality housing that people can feel proud to call their home. The BRE Home Quality Mark certification scheme provides developers and tenants alike with a recognised assessment tool to demonstrate that high standards of quality are being achieved.
